If plastic strap is suitable for an application, must be decided individually. It is not the right material for high temperature.  In general  plastic has better strain values than steel. All factors which work on the load must be considered by the decision for a material.  If you like to automate the packaging process you should make tests with stack pieces at first to be absolutely sure.
